not only the dropout layer as you mentioned will improve the performance, but there is a full scale optimization with cross validation process need to be performed. A good idea is to plot the loss and accuracy to see when a model starts to flatten out. Need to keep adding neurons until performance flattens out. The one shown is for basic understanding and illustration purpose and it is not up to the mark for deployment level model.
